Managing a household of two adults and five children (two with Down’s Syndrome) required extreme organization, to say the least. One of our primary household rules was, “If you can, you must,” which including dressing yourself, making your bed, and tying your shoes. Here’s the magnificent story of what my 5-year old experienced one day when I left her to tie her shoes by herself, in keeping with one of our household rules.
